The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

reds and university

day three of acadamia down.  and im enjoying classes.  i cant say that im thrilled to have work to do, but im glad to be back in school.  especially metalsmithing - which i might add, is looking to be the best semester in metals yet.   stellar classmates, stellar teacher, stellarly clean lab with stellarly new equipment. :SWOON:
that is one class i wont mind doing the work in.]

and as for my other classes, i am in a class with ~statezero and ~carbonfour, which will be rad, im certain.  how can it not, with two really cool friends? history of graphic design.. we even have a *comic* book as our text book! :moreswoon!:

in history, a guy who when to 9-10 grades with me in high school recognized me.  i hadnt ever talked to him before this class, but it was cool that we had some similar connections.  of sorts.

and then i was really blessed today, with a professor helping me get into her class, even though it was full.  i guess its a perk of being a polite, southern raised SENIOR.  muahaha.  its a freshman class, and im finally buckling down and taking it.  which i must, seeing as how i need it to graduate.  but i will be victorious over the youngens!!

life never ceases to amaze me how much fun and wonderful it is.
happiness ensues.
